Funny Podcasts To LIsten To - 7 Funny Podcast Recommendations from the Podcast Maniac Blog

The last year or so has been BONKERS, amIright?

Most of us are over-worked, overwhelmed, and generally over IT.

That's why this post is all about funny podcasts to listen to. Because comedy podcasts have helped to lighten my mood on the days when I've felt like throwing in the towel.

I've been listening to most of these funny podcasts at the gym lately. I figure that, if everyone else is wearing headphones, I can laugh out loud while on the treadmill and only a few people will actually notice.

(Heck, I could probably FALL OFF the treadmill and only a few people would actually notice!)

Along with the endorphins that I get from exercise, having funny podcasts to listen to already downloaded on my phone can really turn a bad day around.

If you're looking for funny podcasts to listen to at work, you're in luck: although some of the shows I recommend below have foul language, they're generally clean and safe for work (but always listen at your own risk!)

If the gym isn't your thing, or you can't listen to podcasts at work, then I recommend listening to these shows on your commute home, or while waiting to pick up the kids from school. There's nothing better than ending the day with a good laugh and a smile on your face.

This list of funny podcasts to listen to is from the Podcast Maniac blog and includes the podcast I Secretly Recorded My Boyfriend. Check it out at www.PodcastManiac.com
I Secretly Recorded My Boyfriend

I love it when a podcast title tells me EXACTLY what the show is about!

This show is precisely what it sounds like: a woman has recorded conversations with her boyfriend, and she shares them.

This show is a hilarious mix of the actual recordings and analysis of said recordings between the girlfriend and her two friends. I've both laughed out loud and been stunned into silence by this podcast, so you know it's good!

Tig and Cheryl: True Story

I never fail to laugh out loud when I'm listening to this podcast. Sometimes I'm giggling along for full minutes at a time.

Comedian Tig Notaro and her friend, actor Cheryl Hines, discuss (and totally spoil) documentaries that they have recently watched. They joke and poke fun at one another while rehashing each documentary.

If you hate spoilers, and you think you're going to watch these movies, this show isn't for you. But even after totally finding out everything about most of the documentaries, I'm still inclined to go watch them.

This article about funny podcasts to listen to includes the show Pen Pals with Daniel & Rory.
Pen Pals with Daniel & Rory

Daniel Van Kirk and Rory Scovel are both actors and comedians. Each episode of their show is the definition of "random" (just scroll through the episode titles and you'll see what I mean).

Their organic conversations and tangents are ridiculously funny, as are the letters and questions that they get from podcast fans and followers.

Beach Too Sandy, Water Too Wet

I found this podcast after reading about it somewhere online. I'm not sure how you even search for this type of show; the title is so obscure (but also so, SO perfect).

The hosts of this podcast scour the internet for 1-star ratings and snarky reviews of places around the US. Then, they read the reviews in their most incensed voices and laugh at how ridiculous people can be.

I searched for an episode about places in Maine (where I'm from) and laughed out loud (even when they were a little insulting towards us Mainers!).

This is a silly show, with tons of episodes available to binge.

This article about funny podcasts includes the fictional parody podcast called Murdertown.
Murdertown

I know: this one doesn't have a title that tells you what it really is. Murdertown sounds like a true crime podcast, and that's the point. It's actually a parody of an investigative true crime show.

This podcast is totally fiction. If you're a fan of Serial or Criminal, you'll quickly get the feel for the tone that the hosts are going for in Murdertown. The characters are both absurd and oddly realistic (with fantastic Midwestern accents), and every episode is heavy with masked jokes and intentionally confusing dialogue.

Bonus: Regular episodes are under 15 minutes (with the option to listen to longer episodes) - perfect for a quick laugh!

Listen to Murdertown (*but not with kids around, there's major language in some episodes!)

Were You Raised by Wolves?

This is one of my favorite podcasts. I subscribe to it. It's in my Monday Morning auto-download, auto-playlist listens. The hosts are so hilarious, that when I first discovered this show, I binged all the episodes, and then I regretted it the second I was all caught up.

The premise of this podcast is a conversation/question-answer session about etiquette and good manners. The episodes are broken up into recurring segments (my favorite type of format).

The podcast is hosted by Nick and Leah. Nick is the etiquette expert, and Leah is a good person who wants to level-up her etiquette knowledge (she's also a comedian from The Great State of Maine, and listening to her makes me wonder if all us Mainers aren't totally the same…).

I highly recommend this show for giving you some laughs and brightening your day.

The podcast Everything is Alive is one of the 7 funny podcasts to listen to on the Podcast Maniac blog.
Everything is Alive

This podcast is an interview-style format that introduces you to the lives and thoughts of inanimate objects. Episode titles include:

  • Louis, Can of Cola
  • Dennis, Pillow
  • Tara, Bar of Soap

You'll find yourself relating to (and laughing about) things that these everyday, household objects explain (yes, I just wrote that sentence). Like when Louis, the can of cola, talks about being dropped and then tapped on the head.

The serious tone of this podcast (sometimes with profound thoughts by pillows and lampposts) makes it even funnier. It's like no podcast you've ever listened to.

Check out the podcast Hey Riddle Riddle, one of the 7 funny podcasts to listen to that is recommended on the Podcast Maniac blog.
Hey Riddle Riddle

How can you not like a podcast whose first episode is titled, Stuck in the Riddle with You? The three co-hosts of this show tackle riddles (obviously), logic and word problems, and other things that have baffled you throughout your lifetime.

There's not always a clear answer to the riddles that are posed, but that's not the point of the show. The real fun and laughter comes from trying to figure out what the answers COULD BE, and why people even CARE.

This show won't exactly make you smarter (and it isn't always clean), but it is pure fun and exactly what you need after a bad day.

The Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! Podcast is one of the 7 Funny Podcasts To Listen To recommended by the Podcast Maniac Blog.
Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

This show is a classic NPR program that has been on the air for 20+ years. It's a combination of the week's current events, trivia (with both celebrity guests and audience members), and freestyle joke-telling by a panel of comedians.

I love that this show has a strict format but is also completely spontaneous and different each week.

The best part is that the different segments of the hour-long radio show are split up into mini-episodes for your podcast feed. If you've only got a few minutes to spare, you can quickly catch a laugh by listening to just one segment.

The Answer Me This! Podcast is one of Podcast Maniac's recommendations for Funny Podcasts to Listen To
Answer Me This!

This long-running (with over 300 episodes!) British show is hosted by Helen Zaltzman (also from The Allusionist podcast) and Olly Mann.

They answer random listener questions, and come up with plenty of their own questions along the way. You'll learn mountains of random information and facts; some useful, many not.

Each episode also starts with a different, funny version of the show's theme song. If you're really desperate for a laugh, just scroll through the feed and listen to the first 20 seconds of each episode!

  1. I am enjoying ‘Ruthie, Me and My Dad’. It is a conversation between a Dad and his 17? year old daughter each trying to enlighten the other. You need to listen to a few to get intto the various segments but it is funny and interesting. As an older person it helps me get clued up with the younger generation!

    • Oh, that one is new to me! I will definitely check it out. I’ve listened to another one sort of like it, with a dad and his son (the name is failing me right now…) and the concept is both sweet and interesting. I have definitely had some of these conversations with my own dad! Thanks for sharing!

  2. There is always a perfect Podcast for every mood I guess..!!! • I couldn’t agree more that podcasts are like books and music – sometimes you’re in the mood for a certain genre or podcaster. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about podcasts! I’m about to unplug for a few minutes and go read a book! 🙂

  3. Watch What Crappens is the absolute best podcast of all time – they recap Bravo shows and impersonate the people – also have a Winter Is Crappening podcast about GOT. SO hilarious!!!
